This is a poem I wrote a while ago, it’s not a literary masterpiece by any means, but it remains one of my favorites.
I saw a shooting star last night,
and on it did I wish,
that time may slow for life does pass
before me ever quick.
But oddly then the star replied,
your wish I cannot grant.
For Father Time waits not for man,
to him you are an ant.
Slowly then I wandered home,
feeling rather small.
Thinking of the universe.
The wonder of it all.
In my dreams that night I came to see,
that time is but a gift.
It’s not about how much you have,
but what you do with it
So tonight, this night, I called my star,
to wish upon once more.
I called out to the universe
from whence it came before.
And in response the star did come,
to grant me one last wish,
and that wish i wished with all my might
was something quite like this:
If time you may not grant to me,
I wish for nothing more,
than to be rich and powerful,
for this I so implore.
And then unto me the star replied,
Alas I cannot force,
the other stars to turn their eyes,
and wander from their course.
In anger then I cursed the star,
and it did only laugh.
Theres is much more to life, it said,
than what your mind does grasp.
Than grant me Love and happiness,
at least give that to me.
I have, it said, so many times,
but you don’t seem to see.
And suddenly I understood that fate
is made through choice.
That if you truly search your life,
you’ll find reason to rejoice.
Again the star did laugh and said,
I did not grant your wish.
Instead I gave you something more,
my friend I’ve granted this.
A lesson that your times a gift,
and if you look you’ll find,
that love, success and happiness,
is all a state of mind.
